Once you're on campus, you'll have a few things to do before you start your classes. Below is a guide on how to get your ID, where to buy your books, how to find your classes, and where to park.
Things to Do When You Arrive on Campus
1. Get Your Student ID: The Terrier Card
All Boston University students, faculty, and staff are assigned a nine-character, computer-generated ID number. This University ID number (or "U" number) is used for all University records, including registration and student accounting.
Terrier Cards are available at the Terrier Card Office at the beginning of Summer Term once you have registered for classes. You will need to present a valid form of government issued photo ID when you go to the Terrier Card Office. Valid identification includes a driver's license, state identification card, or passport.

2. Set Up Your BU Log-in and Optional Google Apps Account
If you registered for courses using our online registration system, you already have a BU login name and Kerberos password and are all set to use important BU resources such as the wireless network, the Student Link, and course sites such as Blackboard Learn.
All of the email sent to your bu.edu address is forwarded to your external email account. However, you are eligible to request a BU Google Apps account, which includes BU Google Mail, if your course of study requires it. If you have an active BU login name and Kerberos password, you can enable your BU Google Apps account by following the steps at bu.edu/tech/services/comm/email/google-mail/welcome.
If you do not have an active BU login name and Kerberos password, or if you would like to request a BU Google Apps account, please visit one of the IT Help Center locations (below). When opening an account at the IT Help Center, you will need to present your Terrier Card in order to prove your affiliation as a BU student.

3. Pay Your Bill
If you have not already paid your bill, please visit Student Accounting Services in person or click here for more information on payment options.
Payment is due by May 21 for Summer 1 and by July 1 for Summer 2. Late fees are charged if you do not pay by these deadlines.
4. Buy Your Books
You can buy textbooks for your courses at the Barnes & Noble @ Boston University Bookstore located at 910 Commonwealth Avenue.
Summer hours are:
Monday-Friday, 9 am - 9 pm
Saturday, 10 am - 6 pm
Sunday, 12 pm - 5 pm

5. Check Your Schedule and Locate Your Classes
You'll want to make sure you know where to go—and when—on the first day of class. If you registered online, you can check your course schedule and classroom location on the Student Link. If you are new to BU this summer, you will receive a copy of your course schedule and classroom location in the mail.
Here is an example of a possible course listed on your schedule: CAS AH 111S B1 ART HISTORY TR 0600P 0930P CAS203.
- CAS AH means the course is offered by the College of Arts and Science (CAS), History of Art and Architecture department (AH).
- The course number 111 indicates that this course is at an introductory level.
- S stands for Summer.
- Section B1 means it is a Summer 2 course (Summer 1 courses have an A1 section code).
- TR 0600P 0930P indicates the course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 9:30 pm.
- The last item in the course schedule is your room location, which gives a building code and room number. For example, CAS 203 means the course is located in the CAS Building (725 Commonwealth Avenue), room 203, which is on the second floor.

If you do not know your course location, you may contact us during our regular business hours to find out where your classes are being held.
6. Parking Information
Parking permits may be purchased, exchanged, or returned at the Parking & Transportation Services office which is located at 1019 Commonwealth Avenue.
Blue day/commuter summer student parking permits are valid all day in select lots and may be purchased for a fee of $418.50.
- Students residing in Allston, Brighton, Brookline, Fenway/Kenmore, Bay Village, and Back Bay are not eligible to purchase a Blue parking permit.
- Students residing outside of the neighborhoods noted above must provide a copy of their current apartment lease or a current utility bill to confirm their residence location at time of purchase.
- Blue Permits are limited and issuance is subject to availability.
White evening summer student parking permits are valid in select lots after 2:30 pm and may be purchased for the fee of $114.00.
- Students registered for daytime classes (any class starting before 6 p.m., defined by the University Registrar) are not eligible to purchase a White permit.
To obtain a parking permit, you must present your valid Boston University Terrier Card and a completed application form at the time of purchase. Application forms are available at our office windows. White evening summer student permits may also be purchased online via the Student Link. Parking permit purchases may be secured with check, American Express, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover.
Boston University parking permits must be properly displayed at all times. Vehicles without valid permits will be subject to tow without notice and at the owner’s risk and expense. For more information, please visit bu.edu/parking, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 617-353-2160.
7. Check-In with ISSO (Visiting International Students Only)
Please note that all visiting international students attending Summer Term programs at Boston University are required to check-in with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) immediately upon arriving on campus regardless of U.S. immigration status.
The ISSO is located at 888 Commonwealth Avenue, on the second floor. Visit bu.edu/isso or call 617-353-3565 if you have any questions about check-in or immigration documentation. It is the responsibility of the ISSO to keep complete and accurate records on every international student and provide them to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) upon request. It is critical that all students check-in with ISSO at the beginning of the Summer Term program to ensure accurate reporting.
Students should bring all relevant immigration documents (i.e. passport, form(s) I-20, DS-2019, etc.) with them to the ISSO.
