Peer Tutor

Job Description
In order to apply to be a Peer Tutor, you must be an undergraduate student in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing at Boston University, as verified by the ERC. All candidates must have completed at least one semester at Boston University prior to applying. Candidates must also have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at Boston University, have achieved a grade of B or better in whichever course(s) they wish to tutor, acquire a faculty recommendation for the course(s) they wish to tutor (more information about this requirement can be found on the first page of the application), and all candidates must be available to tutor at least four hours every week. Accepted candidates will be required to attend two staff led Tutor Training Sessions prior to beginning work as a tutor.

Selection Process
The application process begins each semester about a week before the first day of classes. Applicants must submit the completed application form and resume; must have cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; must have a B or higher in all courses wish to tutor in; must have completed at least one semester at the University, and be available to tutor for at least two consecutive semesters; must be in good judicial standing at BU; must acquire faculty recommendation for each course in which they are applying to tutor; and employment is contingent upon completion of necessary training. If accepted, students are required to be available for a minimum for four hours each week of the semester.

The Peer Tutor Application is posted each semester on our website (and can be acquired in person at the ERC front desk) and is removed at the end of the application window. Dates and details can always be found on our website.
