Dependent Coverage

Students may enroll their eligible dependents in the Student Basic Plan only. Dependent Enrollment is effective for the current policy year only and does not automatically roll-over to the next policy year.

The final enrollment deadline for dependents is September 30, 2012, unless you or your dependent has a significant life change (such as marriage, divorce, or the birth or adoption of a child) that directly affects the insurance coverage.

Students enrolled in the Fall Semester

To enroll your dependents in the Student Basic Plan, visit Aetna Student Health’s website. Click on “Medical Plans”, then click on the tab for your school and campus, and then select the “Enroll Here…Dependents” button. The Dependent Enrollment begins June 1,2012

For students enrolled for the 2012-2013 policy year effective August 23, 2012, through August 22, 2013, the dependent rates are:

Spouse (Student Basic Level): $4,446
Child(ren) (Student Basic Level): $2,428

These rates are separate from the student’s own medical insurance charge that is assessed to the student’s account.

Students who are new for the Spring Semester only

Spring dependent enrollment is open only to students who are new as of the Spring Semester. The final enrollment deadline for dependents for the Spring policy period is February 1, 2013. Please refer to the instructions above to enroll your dependents in the plan.

For New Spring Students enrolled for the Spring/Summer policy period (January 1, 2013, through August 22, 2013) the dependents rate are:

Spouse (Student Basic Level): $2,851
Child(ren) (Student Basic Level): $1,557

These rates are separate from the student’s own medical insurance charge that is assessed to the student’s account.

Important Note

You must be an Aetna Student Health member to add your dependents to the plan. Dependent premiums will be charged to your Boston University student account 7 to 14 business days after you submit your online enrollment. You will be responsible for payment in full of any resulting balance due.

*Eligible dependents are the insured student’s lawful spouse and dependent children under 26 years of age.

Note: Dependents of the student enrolled in the plan are not able to be seen at Student Health Services and do not require a referral from Student Health Services to access the outpatient benefits. A list of Preferred Providers may be viewed using Aetna’s DocFind® service at www.aetnatudenthealth.com or through Aetna Navigator.
