Dependent Coverage

Students enrolled for the 2014-2015 plan year may enroll their eligible dependents in the Student Basic Plan only. If you are enrolled in the 2014-2015 plan year, and your dependent(s) has a significant life change (such as marriage, divorce, or the birth or adoption of a child) that directly affects the insurance coverage, please contact Student Accounting Services for information on enrolling your dependent(s) for the balance of the plan year.  Email: insmed@bu.edu. Phone: 617-353-2870.

NOTE: Dependent coverage does not automatically roll over to the new plan year. If you wish to enroll your dependents for the 2015-2016 plan year, please see the information below.

Important changes for the 2015-2016 plan year:

As of the Fall 2015 semester, students must be enrolled at the PLUS plan level to add eligible dependents.  If you are enrolled in the Student BASIC plan and wish to enroll eligible dependents, you must upgrade to the Student PLUS plan by the open enrollment deadline of September 30, 2015.

If your student account was assessed for the Boston University Student Basic level with your semester registration, visit the Student Link, select “Medical Insurance Providers,” click the “Reinstate Basic Plan,” or “Reinstate Plus Plan,” and confirm your selection.

If you enrolled in the Boston University Student Basic plan through a written request, you may send an email request to insmed@bu.edu requesting to change to the Student Plus Plan. Be sure to include your BU ID number with your request.
