New databases available to BU Alums!

October 25th, 2013 in New Resources, New Services

The BU Libraries are pleased to announce that BU alumni now have increased access to many electronic resources including ebooks and full text journal articles. To access these resources, alumni should visit the Alumni Services webpage on the Library’s website. Databases now available to BU alumni include JSTOR, Project Muse, and EBSCO’s Business Source, among others. This expanded service was made possible by a collaboration among the Provost’s Office, IS&T,  and the Libraries.

If you have any questions, please contact a reference librarian.

The loan period for graduate student loans is now 133 days, rather than 28 days.  Loans prior to August 28th remain at 28 days unless renewed. You may renew books twice online (unless an item is recalled or overdue) prior to bringing them back to the library.

ILLiad Improvements

December 11th, 2012 in New Services

Changes are coming to ILLiad! Effective at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, you will be able to sign in to your ILLiad interlibrary loan account using your Kerberos username and password. You will then be asked to provide contact information to create your new ILLiad account.

Your new ILLiad account will have significant changes:

  • You will need to sign in to ILLiad with your BU username and Kerberos password, instead of your old ILLiad username and password.
  • ILLiad emails will be sent to your BU email address only. If you wish to forward emails from your BU address to another account, please contact BU IS&T for more information on how to forward emails.
  • If you have bookmarked our old ILLiad sign-in page on your browser, you will need to bookmark the new sign-in page instead.

Your old ILLiad requests still exist and will continue to be processed. It may take 1-2 business days for the old account to be merged to your new account and those requests to become visible online. Even if you cannot see your old requests on your new ILLiad account, you may continue to pick-up or return any ILL requests placed before the switch (emails will still be sent when those ILL requests arrive).

These improvements will help us to provide you with better Interlibrary Loan services. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Access Services Librarian, Stacey Ramos, at or 617-358-0698.

Big changes coming to the BU Libraries!

November 7th, 2012 in New Services

Starting November 16th, there will be several changes to the library website and services. These changes include:

  1. All graduate students will get to borrow materials for 28 days.

  2. Faculty loans will be for one year.

  3. Requests will be performed within the new catalog interface (BU Search) rather than via paper request forms.

  4. Users will no longer require PINs to access their library accounts. All log-ins will be by BU username and Kerberos password. External borrowers lacking a BU username or Kerberos password will no longer be able to check their records or renew books online.

  5. You will need to sign into the new system to access electronic resources.  At the current time, sign in is only available AFTER you’ve entered a search.  If you do not sign in, full-text materials will not display except as citations.

As the BU libraries transition from the current system to the new system this month, we expect that we will encounter some issues so we ask for your patience. We will do our best to make your experience as painless as possible.

Also, reservations are not guaranteed, as neither room can be reserved by more than one party at a time and both can only be reserved for appropriate academic functions.
