Financial Aid Forms

STH Financial Aid Application (READ BELOW)

This application is required each academic year for all School of Theology students who want to apply for financial aid (including Merit Scholarship recipients).  It is also for the use of applicants to the School of Theology.  On this form, students provide personal information (such as address and denomination) and can also request federal loans and/or list any outside awards that they have applied for or have received.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) (READ BELOW)

The FAFSA is required each academic year for School of Theology students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  The Title IV code to submit your FAFSA to Boston University School of Theology is 002130.   The FAFSA requires a minimum of 5-7 business days to transmit to Boston University.

The 2012-2013 FAFSA application opens on January 1, 2012.  It is strongly recommended that you wait to file your 2012-2013 FAFSA until at least two weeks after you file your 2011 tax return so that you can use the IRS data retrieval tool.  The IRS data retrieval tool will allow you to import your 2011 tax information directly from the IRS to improve the accuracy of your FAFSA data.  If you do not use IRS tax retrieval to complete your 2012-2013 FAFSA, your application will be selected for verification and you will need to provide an IRS tax transcript (which will take a minimum of 10 business days to receive from the IRS).  Students who are non-tax filers will need to go through a separate verification process.  Students who estimate their financial FAFSA data will not be eligible for federal aid.

When completing your 2011 tax return, please be sure to consult the following information from the IRS on what is taxable income for students: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/students/article/0,,id=96674,00.html If you questions on what is taxable income for you, please consult a tax professional because BU policy bars financial aid coordinators from tax advising.

Links to Scholarships and Outside Awards

Scholarships, grants, and loans are available from a number of denominational, humanitarian, and other agencies. The School of Theology is aware of some outside scholarships for qualified students and assumes that students will apply for any and all outside funds for which they are eligible.  In addition, students are expected to indicate on the STH Financial Aid application any awards for which they are applying and to notify the School of Theology in writing of any outside awards received.  These awards must be factored into the student’s financial aid package.   Outside awards may reduce the student’s eligibility to borrow federal funds or receive work study.
