The Alfred Harlow Avery Scholar Search
Boston University School of Theology is conducting a search
for the third recipient of the Alfred Harlow Avery Scholarship
in Theology. Established in 1992 by the Arthur G. B. Metcalf
Foundation at Boston University, the Avery Scholarship is
awarded to one entering student at the School of Theology
in either the Master of Divinity or Doctor of Theology program
every three to four years. The Avery Scholarship, which amounts
to $25,000 per annum, is awarded on the basis of previous
academic distinction and an essay competition. The Scholarship
is used to attend Boston University School of Theology, and
helps the recipient meet the cost of tuition and fees, housing,
travel, books, and other educationally related expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be actively seeking admission to Boston
University School of Theology, in either the Master of Divinity
or Doctor of Theology degree programs.
- The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.7
(on a 4.0 scale) from a previous Bachelor of Arts degree
or Master of Divinity degree program. The School will not
average GPAs for applicants with more than one degree.
- The applicant must submit a twelve to fifteen page essay
on the topic of Evangelism (essay guidelines are
available).
- The applicant must submit two recommendations (in addition
to those required for admission) from persons who can attest
to the applicant's high academic distinction and suitability
for the Alfred Harlow Avery Scholarship in Theology.
- All materials submitted in support of application for
the Alfred Harlow Avery Scholarship in Theology are due
Friday, February 5, 1998.
The applicant must be available to travel to Boston for on-campus
interviews, if invited, on February 25 and 26, 1999.
