Adoniram
Judson completed his translation of this New Testament in 1823, here
opened to the title page. He was imprisoned in Burma in 1824 for his
missionary activities. His wife, Ann, whose portrait is shown here,
visited him everyday in jail with food and other supplies. She sewed
the completed New Testament manuscript into a pillow and brought it
to her husband so that he could revise his work. Ann died just before
Adoniram was released from prison in 1826. Although he underwent a
long period of mourning for his wife, he completed revising his translation
of the New Testament and it was published in 1832.
