For a number of years, Dean Newsome has served in higher
education as a professor, academic counselor, and consultant.
Her research interests include the womanist idea and spiritual
disciplines, and the role of African-American women in church
and mission history. Reverend Newsome, who previously
served as Associate Dean of Marsh Chapel, the Church at Boston
University, was raised in the Church of God in Christ and
ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Reverend Newsome recently became a member of the United Methodist
Church.
Dean Newsome is the Director of the Project for African American Religious Research and Education.
