School of Theology Fund
Alumni/ae contributions to the School of Theology Fund are a vital part of realizing the goals of the School to train students for ministry in the contemporary world within an excellent academic setting. Alumni/ae gifts impact student life through the acquisition of new books for the library, subscriptions to the most current publications in theological fields, faculty development, and essentially every area of student life. Day to day programming for the School of Theology would not be possible without the generosity of our alumni/ae.
Annual Fund Leadership Giving Societies
The School of Theology and Boston University have Annual Fund Leadership Giving Societies to honor the distinguished group of contributors who, year after year, help the University to prepare young people for ministry. Membership in the Giving Societies recognizes donations made without restriction to the STH Fund within a single fiscal year. Each Society offers a variety of benefits, including recognition in Focus and exclusive invitations to events. As a member of a Society, you will be part of a vital support system for the School of Theology’s pursuit of excellence. Through your vision and generosity, you will be an inspiration to others. Truman Collins Chair of World Christianity and History of Mission
The Collins Chair is fulling funded! We celebrated the completion of the funding of the Collins chair during Matriculation on September 21, 2011 and at a luncheon following the service of matriculation on the same day. Planned Gifts
By including the School of Theology in your estate plans, alumni/ae and friends can make gifts far larger than they ever expected. Donors using one of the five main types of life income or estate gifts–Bequest Intention, Charitable Gift Annuity, Charitable Remainder Trust, Charitable Lead Trust, and Retirement Plan Assets—can support the School of Theology. These types of charitable gifts can:
- Provide the donor with tax and income benefits
- Endow a gift to honor and pay tribute to the memory of a family member, loved one, or a mentor in the donor’s personal or professional life
- Provide endowment support to the School of Theology. Gifts that endow scholarships, professorships, or other programs provide financial support in perpetuity and strengthen the School of Theology’s financial status.

Harrell F. Beck Chair in Hebrew Scripture
Former School of Theology Professor Harrell F. Beck (STH’45, GRS’54) was a profound influence on many, who remain faithful to his teaching, preaching, and counsel. We are pleased to announce our progress toward establishing a chair in honor of Dr. Beck. Our goal is to create a fully-funded Harrell F. Beck Chair in Hebrew Scripture, a fitting testimony to his life and ongoing influence.
Earl and Millie Beane Housing Fund
The Earl and Millie Beane Housing fund was established in 2006 upon the retirement of former Director of Admissions Rev. Earl Beane (CAS ’63, STH ’67, ‘68). Earl and his wife Millie (CFA ’64, ‘84, SED ’95) are beloved by everyone in the School of Theology community. Millie’s faithful leadership as the Director of the Seminary Singers left students singing even after they left the School, and Earl’s commitment to prospective students was the main reason that many people chose STH for seminary. The Beane Housing Fund is a tribute to Earl and Millie’s dedication to the School and their far-reaching concern for its students, right down to the issue of steep Boston housing prices. With financial support from STH alums and friends, the Beane Housing Fund will be able to reduce the cost of housing for needy seminary students through annual scholarships and stipends. In 2008, the Beane fund provided 15 housing stipends to international students living at the Walker Center, a non-profit organization that provides long-term and short-term housing to members of faith-based groups.
