Description:

2009-2010 Word&World Essay Prize for Doctoral Candidates. The winner will receive an award of $1000.00 and any applicant (not only the winner) has the possibility of having her or his essay published in Word&World, the quarterly journal of Theology for Christian Ministry published by faculty members at Luther Seminary. All finalists receive a free subscription to the journal.

The essay prize is designed to encourge scholarship and writing that promotes “theology for Christian ministry” by students actively enrolled in graduate programs in theology or religious studies leading to the Ph.D. or Th.D. degree (or equivalent), whether in residence or beyond. Essays submitted should be devoted to topics that are of theoloigical concern for those engaged in the practice of Christian ministry; they should be written in a lively style that is fully accessible to that audience and should meet conventional scholarly standards for that kind of essay.

Qualifications:

Actively enrolled in Ph.D., Th.D, or equivalent degree program. Essays submitted for the competition must be accompanied by a submission form; must be recieved by Word&World by Nov.1; they must be 3500 words in length (plus or minus 10 percent).
