 Associate General Secretary of Administration & Operations

 Office of Administration

The successful candidate provides chief administrative oversight of the fiscal, operational, and administrative functions including finance, information technology, operational/administrative management, marketing/communications, loans and scholarships, and data management programs for the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and reports directly to the General Secretary of the GBHEM.  The incumbent provides leadership for strategic planning and implementation of new programmatic strategic initiatives for the GBHEM including oversight of the development of strategic plans/initiatives, identification of opportunities to leverage cross-program strengths that help create efficiencies and address organizational challenges, and creation and implementation of systems that monitor and evaluate measurable outcomes and progress for program initiatives/goals.  The successful candidate will serve on the executive staff of the GBHEM and will be a liaison and resource to the board’s executive committee, the Connectional Table, the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA), and safety and crisis management teams.  Additional responsibilities include oversight of property management and building services functions.  As the chief administrative officer of the board, the incumbent will provide leadership to GBHEM’s work with General Conference and GBHEM annual board meeting planning.  The incumbent will also work collaboratively with the General Secretary and the Executive Director of Development in developing and managing revenue-generating activities and fundraising initiatives.

 Requirements:  Master’s degree in business administration or similar field of study; minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership or management experience overseeing administrative and/or operational functions of an organization; previous leadership experience with and demonstrated understanding of development and implementation of strategic plans and establishment of evidence-based measurable outcomes; experience in general agency and annual conference finance functions desirable; experience with information systems, web and social media, and marketing/communication administration; active membership in The United Methodist Church (UMC) required; familiarity with financial standards as they are applied to nonprofits and in particular to a general agency of the UMC preferred; knowledge and understanding of the UMC structure and organization highly preferred; strategic and analytical skills essential; strong administrative and organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to communicate and work with diverse colleagues in a team approach; ability to think creatively and problem solve; demonstrated experience leading, organizing, and motivating teams.  Candidates must be willing and able to travel if needed.  Relocation to Nashville, TN, required.
