Director of Christian for Children and Youth St. Michael’s Church, Marblehead, MA

St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Marblehead, MA seeks a Christian Education Director to direct, enhance and participate in our K-5 church school program, middle school youth program, and related children-youth-family activities. Located in a gorgeous, historic seaside town just 15 miles away from downtown Boston, St. Michael’s has the distinction as being the oldest Episcopal church in New England still on its original site.  The successful candidate will enjoy participating in our 300th anniversary celebrations planned for 2014.  St. Michael’s is an active “pastoral” size parish with approximately 30 children registered between nursery and the 5th grade, and approximately 12 young people registered between 6th and 8th grades. The position is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, at $20 per hour.

We seek a theologically grounded person who possesses an enthusiasm and creativity for Christian education and spiritual formation of children and young people. It is the aim of St. Michael’s to nurture and develop in our children and young people an ever growing awareness of their relationship with God in Christ and each other through worship, scripture, fellowship and service. We currently use Godly Play (pre-K – 2nd grades) and Weaving God’s Promises (2nd – 5th grades). The Middle School Youth meetings are designed to include fellowship, instruction and fun around a meal.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree or higher; demonstrated experience in Christian education for children and young people; excellent interpersonal skills and rapport with children, youth and families; and strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and delegate. The candidate should also possess Christian faith and spirit. If not an Episcopalian, the candidate will be willing to learn the basics of our tradition. Certification in Godly Play is preferred, or a willingness to be trained. A CORI check and completion of Safe Church training will be expected.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resumed via email to the Rev. Andrew Stoessel at:revajs@stmichaels1714.org, or by mail to St. Michael’s Church, 26 Pleasant St, Marblehead, MA 01945. Phone: 781-631-0657.
