Rollin H. Walker (1892)

Rollin H. WalkerRollin Hough Walker, long-time professor of English Bible at Ohio Wesleyan University, was born on December 19, 1865.  He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1888, and Boston University in 1892.  Boston University granted Rollin Walker  a Ph.D. in 1908.

Walker taught briefly in Folz Mission Institute in Herkimer, New Mexico before assuming responsibilities at Ohio Wesleyan University in 1900.  He taught at OWU until 1936, whereupon his retirement he was made a lifetime trustee of the university.

In addition to being a popular preacher, Walker communicated through print.  For eleven years he submitted weekly articles entitled “Dr. Walker’s Bible Class,” for the Christian Advocate.  He also authored multiple books.

Walker died in August 4, 1955, remembered fondly for his impact upon Methodist youth in Ohio, and for his ability to make the Bible come alive.
