Dr. Steketee, a member of the faculty since 1986, was appointed Dean of the Boston University School of Social Work in 2008 after serving as Dean ad interim for three years. From 1996 to 1999, she served as the School’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. Steketee has conducted research and taught on cognitive and behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders. She has conducted NIMH-funded research on behavioral and cognitive treatments for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) with colleagues from the University of Pennsylvania and Mass General Hospital. Her current research focuses on assessment and treatment of hoarding disorder in adults with colleagues at Smith College and Hartford Hospital. She has published extensively in these areas, including over a dozen books and numerous articles and chapters. She serves on the scientific advisory board of the International OCD Foundation and has been a board member of the National Association of Deans and Directors of MSW programs. She is an elected Fellow and current Vice President of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) and was elected president of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) for 2016-17.

Efficacy Evaluation of a Unified Transdiagnostic Treatment for Anxiety Disorders, NIMH R34, 2011-2013, Expert Consultant. This treatment development grant was awarded to PI Dr. David Barlow at Boston University Department of Psychology and the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders.

Development of a Behavioral Team Intervention for OCD NIMH K23 2010-2015, Mentor. This career development grant was awarded to PI Dr. Maria Mancebo at Butler Hospital/Brown University to develop community service interventions for OCD.

Psychopathology of Compulsive Hoarding, NIMH R01, 2005-2009. Principal Investigator. This collaborative site grant with Dr Randy Frost at Smith College and Dr. David Tolin at Hartford Hospital studied the symptoms of hoarding and its relationship to OCD and normative behavior.

Treatment of Compulsive Hoarding, NIMH R21, 2003-2006. Principal Investigator. This treatment development grant with colleagues Dr. Randy Frost at Smith College and Dr. David Tolin at Hartford Hospital focused on developing and testing a multi-method treatment for hoarding.

Treatment of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, NIMH R34, 2004-2007. Co-Investigator. This R34 grant with Dr. Sabine Wilhelm (Principal investigator) from Mass General Hospital and Dr. Kathy Phillips from Butler Hospital aims to develop and test a cognitive behavioral treatment for BDD.

Other recently completed grants examined (1) cognitive therapy for OCD (NIMH R21, Co-PI), (2) reasons for treatment failure for clients with OCD (OC Foundation, Co-PI), (3) compulsive hoarding among elderly people (OC Foundation, PI), and (4) family factors predicting treatment outcome for OCD (NIMH R01, PI).
