BUSSW Social Policy Book Group

Sponsored by the Social Policy Analysis Working Group, the Social Policy Book Group is comprised of students, faculty and staff who are passionate about the intersection of social justice and policy. The group meets several times per semester to discuss a book that raises important questions about both of these topics, with an emphasis on examining the policy implications of the book. For the Fall 2016 Semester, the group will be reading Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond. This widely-acclaimed work follows eight families in Milwaukee who among the growing number of low-income American households who face extreme challenges in meeting one of life’s most basic needs of having a safe, decent place to call home. In doing so, it challenges readers to think about how we ought to understand poverty and our responses to it. All are welcome. For October 26th, we will focus on discussion of Part II (p. 112-207).
