Kristina Whiton-O’Brien (SSW ’95) Appointed to the Plymouth County Commission on the Status of Women

Kristina Whiton-O’Brien (SSW ’95), assistant director for online program advising at Boston University School of Social Work, has been sworn in as a new member of the Plymouth County Commission on the Status of Women, a regional branch of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. The group’s mission is to advance women toward full equality in all areas of life, and to promote rights and opportunities for all women.

Whiton-O’Brien’s history with the group goes back to 2016, when she received their Unsung Heroine award. “When the new commission was created for my area, I saw it as a way to put my social work skills to good use in my local community,” said Whiton-O’Brien.

As a Commissioner on the Plymouth County CSW, Whiton-O’Brien will work with the state of Massachusetts to advise on policy regarding the equal treatment of women. Ultimately, the group aspires to close the wage gap between genders and to serve as a resource for all women and girls in Plymouth County and beyond.
