
Incoming Students
University Identification Numbers and ID Cards
All Boston University students are assigned a nine-character, computer-generated ID number. This University ID number or 'U' number will be used for all University records including registration and class adjustments.
Terrier Card (BU ID Card)
Terrier Cards are issued at the start of each semester for new students. Photo identification must be presented to receive a new card. Valid identification includes a driver's license, state identification card, or passport. The Terrier Card is valid for on-campus identification only.
Charles River Campus Students:
Charles River campus students may obtain their Terrier Card from the Terrier Card Office, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Lower Level.
Off-Campus Students:
Off-Campus Students will get their terrier card (BU ID) at Orientation which is held in Boston on the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Replacement ID Cards
Replacement Terrier Cards for Charles River Campus students may be obtained Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. from Terrier Card Office—775 Commonwealth Avenue, Lower Level
Photo identification must be presented to receive a new card. Valid identification includes a driver's license, state identification card, or passport. The replacement fee for a photo Charles River Campus ID card is $30 and may be charged to the student's account. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
