SSW Q & A
- Q. I am trying to map out my course schedule/selections for next year and I am having some trouble figuring out which electives fulfill which category. Is there a list of electives according to the categories (A, B, & C)?
- A. Elective lists are in the Student Handbook on-line or, to get a hardcopy, go to the Student Services’ rack outside Rm117A.
Thanks for your question it will prompt us on making it easier to find this on-line in the future. For now, go to the BUSSW web page: http://www.bu.edu/ssw/ and click on “current students” at the top, then, when you get to the “Student Handbook” scroll to the end for “Electives” (This is where you can find a number of forms you may need.)
Your advisors can help you program plan. For anyone who is deviating from a standard plan, know that I, Cate: Director of Student Services, need to have a copy of your program plan on file and have signed-off on it. I too am available to help you program plan. Just email me for an appointment csolomon@bu.edu
Remember that while the list has numerous electives listed, not all are offered every semester/year so, while you can plan each semester with an A & a B and two Cs - it's hard to know the exact courses offered in that term.
In sum, students need one “A” Elective - an advanced policy elective (macro students have designated macro classes to choose from); one “B” elective - an advanced Human Behavior or Clinical Practice course (macro students have designated macro classes to choose from) and, two “C” electives (advanced courses that relate to social work – A, B or an approved other course). In addition, Clinical students also need one Advanced Clinical Practice Elective (an advanced CP course).
What a long-winded answer. If I can help in any other way, please let me know. - Cate
