OTHER IMPORTANT Upcoming information:
BU is organizing an event on the BU Medical Campus On Dec. 1 for World AIDS day and would like to encourage youth in Boston to get involved by creating artwork inspired to help raise peoples awareness of HIV/AIDS.
The art work will be displayed on the day and we hoped that
social work students who are working in agencies with youth
would be willing to volunteer to bring this project to their agencies as a collaboraative effort to support World AIDS Day. Contact Liz at eltheria@bu.edu for more info.
The Boston University CAS Undergrad Honors Program and Professor Peter Yeager of Sociology have arranged a talk by Ms. Phyllis Kornfeld on "Prison Art in America" (at 5pm on Friday November 2 in CAS B-12). We think it may be of interest to the students and faculty of SSW and they are most welcome to attend.

BUSSW PhD Project Hiring Interviewers
Interviewers needed on an exciting study of mentoring relationships between youth and adults. Interviewers will conduct face-to-face surveys and in-depth interviews with youth (11-16 years of age), mentors and parents/guardians participating in mentoring programs. Interviewers will receive either $24 or $36 for each completed survey/interview session (depending on the length of the interview). Travel to participants’ homes and evening and weekend hours needed to complete the surveys/interviews, as these times are the most convenient for some of the study participants. Next training session is 10/31. Please contact Terry Lewis at tolewis@bu.edu / (617)353-1407 to join this cutting edge research.

SSW RESEARCH COURES INFO:
The required Research 2 textbook is:
Frankfort-Nach - Social Statistics for a Diverse Society with SPSS CD, 4th edition 2006 (Sage), ISBN 978-1-4-1291793-3.
This is the textbook, BUSSW used during the fall 07 semester.
IF, you purchase the textbook used—be sure it is has the SPSS CD. Also, “beware”—the SPSS CD has an internal clock and will only run for 12 months post-activation. (A book bought from a student who is taking Research II this fall is fine; however, a used book from a student who took the class last spring will not operate!)
The required textbook for Research I (SR 743) is:
Rubin and Babbie - Research Methods for Social Work, 6th edition 2008 (Cengage L), ISBN 978-0-4-9509515-6
The 6th edition of the textbook was used during Fall 07 semester—you may be able to buy used copies for BUSSW students or online in addition to the BU bookstore.
