Dean’s Update: Moving Courses Online

Dean’s Update on COVID-19 from March 11, 2020

Hello BUSSW students:

Given the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation and President’s Brown’s email message today, effective immediately until Monday, April 13, 2020, BUSSW will move all of its courses online, meeting remotely at their regularly scheduled times. Students will not return to their classroom settings during that time.

This applies to those attending classes at our Charles River Campus and Off-Campus sites. OLP students will continue their courses per their regular schedule.

As I wrote on Friday, we have been preparing for this possibility. We have a BUSSW CORE Response Team working to address concerns and issues. We understand this health situation can be stressful to many and we will do our best to alleviate concerns where we can – with our priority being the safety of our community – as we help our students complete their semester.

We have assembled a small team of remote teaching coordinators to work with faculty to move all CRC and OCP courses online for next week.

More information will be coming from that team very shortly.

For those with questions about their field placements, stay tuned for helpful information soon.

In the meantime, patience will be important since this is happening so quickly. We should expect to encounter some rough spots while CRC and OCP faculty and students get started on the online/remote platform.

Comprehensive information and FAQs can be found on the official BU Coronavirus site. Please note the University will not hold any non-academic gatherings or meetings during this time; only activities for research with fewer than 10 participants will be permitted.

Per Governor Baker’s declaration of a state of emergency yesterday (3.10.2020), we encourage everyone in our community to:

1)   limit unnecessary travel

2)   stay home as much as possible

3)   reduce or avoid participation in large gatherings

4)   seek medical attention if you feel sick (Students can contact Student Health Services at 617-353-3575)

Thank you all for your resilience and support as we work through this together.
