Cape Cod Community College
Cape Cod Community College sits on more than 10 acres of fields and woodland adjacent to the Mid Cape Highway—Exit 6 off Route 6. At its core is a beautifully landscaped knoll. Throughout much of the year, faculty and students use this setting for class meetings and quiet study. Wooded walkways provide access to athletic fields, tennis courts, parking lots and connecting paths to ten buildings.
History and Background
Since its inception in 1961, Cape Cod Community College has been the sole provider of higher educational opportunities on a regular basis to the residents of Cape Cod and the Islands . While its legislative mandate was limited to offering programs leading up to an Associate's Degree, the College has begun investigating creative ways to bring programs beyond the Associate's Degree level to its service area. This exploration formally began in 1992 when the President of Cape Cod Community College formed a committee of college personnel, area school superintendents, business representatives and social service leaders.
Cape Cod Center for Graduate Education
Boston University School of Social Work is excited to be the newest member of the Cape Cod Center for Graduate Education. The initial group formed the Board of Directors of the Cape Cod Center for Graduate Education (the Center) and was established as a non-profit organization. Its charge was to conduct a series of surveys to determine which graduate level programs are currently in demand to meet the educational, business and social/human service needs of the Cape and Islands . Once these areas were identified, the Center issued Request for Proposals (RFP's) from public and private accredited colleges throughout the New England region. The Board of Directors then conducted a rigorous selection process for each of the disciplines identified. Criteria for selection include academic reputation, cost, and commitment to the program. A major component of the agreement developed by the Center was the requirement that once the partnering institution agreed to begin a program, it was then committed to provide all of the remaining requisite courses for that program.
