Seminar for New Field Instructors
The Seminar for New Field Instructors is required for all field instructors supervising an MSW student for the first time. Because the course is designed to support beginning field instruction skills, we only offer the Seminar to people supervising a student in the fall. Please note that several of the sections have an enrollment cap and some tend to fill up early. Priority will be given to field instructors who will be supervising Boston University students in the event a section becomes full. Field instructors who will be supervising Macro practice students should enroll in the Tuesday morning section, Section B. If you are unable to attend one of the seminars offered by Boston University, you may be able to attend a similar seminar offered by one of the other New England schools of social work. Please go to the NECON website for information on locations, dates and times.
All placements began the week of September 8, 2008. Foundation (first year) students are in the field 16 hours/week, typically on Thursdays and Fridays for a total of 480 hours. Advanced (second year) and advanced standing students are in the field 24 hours/week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays for a total of 720 hours. Students and agencies are free to negotiate alterations in field placement days, providing that these do not conflict with students' class schedules. Any alteration in the number of hours/week in field placement must be discussed with the Field Education office directly. No student may be in the field for less than 16 hours/week.
If you have any questions or concerns about the field placement program, please feel free to contact the Field Education office or call us at 617-353-3754.
