Short-term (1-5 year) priorities
Develop state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure that supports research and scholarship
This priority is aimed at enhancing both faculty research capacity and our educational programs. Without a focused effort in this area, other goals outlined earlier (e.g., expand our grant activity, support students on grants) will be considerably more difficult to accomplish. Among the initiatives we proposed in section 3 above, we will concentrate first on increasing technological skills among support staff and also look to improve computer support for all faculty, administrators, and students. Longer term, but still high priorities, are to increase funding levels from faculty grants and endowments to enable SSW to support additional statistical and other research staff available for developing proposals and implementing research projects.
