Short-term (1-5 year) priorities
Strengthen our intellectual learning community
All of our educational and scholarly/research activities depend on active intellectual engagement within the SSW community. In recent years, an intense focus on hiring has reduced the number of outside colloquia and seminars for faculty and students. We need to increase this “research traffic” considerably to foster the cross disciplinary focus of educational and research activities. We will immediately launch a lecture series with invited speakers and plan to invite selected scholars of strong interest to the SSW community for more extended stays to teach and consult with faculty and students. Consistent with this effort, we have already begun to explore a major revision to our doctoral program to expand its focus to attract top students who will benefit from and contribute to the overall intellectual community.
