Strategic Plan
Executive Summary
The strategic planning process for SSW was coordinated by a committee of six faculty and administrators and involved all faculty and administrative staff of the School through a variety of means, including surveys, faculty meetings, SSW committee meetings, and School-wide meetings. Goals for educational excellence include enhancing the School’s public visibility as a premier school with an interdisciplinary focus in the master’s and doctoral programs, promoting our educational niche in specialty areas, and strengthening our intellectual community for students and faculty. Research and scholarly excellence goals are to increase SSW’s national and international reputation, expand faculty scholarship activities and funded research, and increase cross-disciplinary activities. Goals for diversity focus mainly on increasing funding to attract and retain excellent students and scholars from diverse backgrounds. After identifying multiple strategies and initiatives to meet these goals, we have settled on three short-term priorities:
- develop state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure that supports teaching, research, and scholarship
- expand financial supports to recruit excellent students from diverse backgrounds, and
- strengthen our intellectual learning community through invited speakers from multiple disciplines and revisions to our doctoral program to attract top students.
Website redesign and doctoral program revisions are underway now and additional initiatives will be selected and implemented in the coming months with input from all divisions of the school.
