Professor Hudson (centered) speaks at a forum before the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging

Professor and Chair of the Social Welfare Policy Department Robert B. Hudson was the lead witness at a forum before the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging in Washington, D.C., on December 14, 2011.  The forum, “The Potential for an Aging Society,” was held to honor the 50th anniversary of the Committee’s creation in 1961. Also testifying were Richard Hodes, director of the National Institute on Aging; Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee, Department of Health and Human Services; and  John W. Rowe, director, MacArthur Foundation Research Network on an Aging Society.

The forum was followed by a reception sponsored by the Gerontological Society of America attended by some 200 people, including numerous past chairs and staff directors of the Committee.  The current issue of Public Policy & Aging Report, which Professor Hudson edits, features articles by Professor Hudson and MacArthur Network scholars.
