Certificate Program in Spirituality and Social Work Practice
What is spirituality and how is it related to social work practice? This and other topics will be addressed in this seminar-style certificate program which aims to help social workers in many types of setting integrate spirituality into their practice. Issues of loss, grief, letting-go, forgiveness and addictions will be discussed, and participants will gain skills and information to deepen awareness of spirituality across the lifespan. Much of the course will focus on how to help clients, young and old, develop ways to give meaning to their lives and also create ways to give comfort to themselves and others. In addition, the role of religion both as a destructive cult and supportive community will be discussed. Practical skills include taking a spiritual history, learning how to talk openly about spiritualiy, and using spiritual autobiography. Guest speakers and in-depth discussion will deepen and enrich this program.
