Welcoming Schools: An LGBT Inclusive Approach to Working with Families and Adults
This daylong workshop will inform and inspire social workers and other professionals who want to take an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) inclusive approach to embracing family diversity and addressing bias in school settings. The content of the day is derived from Welcoming Schools, a program designed to embrace family diversity, avoid gender stereotyping and end bullying in elementary schools. Social workers and other support professional have been at the forefront of implementing Welcoming Schools nationwide. The presentation will be interactive, build on participants' knowledge, and model concrete tools that can be used by individuals or school- and district-wide. While the content focuses primarily on schools, it will also be relevant to anyone who works with children and families.
