
The Athletics Department helps student athletes develop skills important not only in sports, but in life: teamwork, self-discipline, responsibility, and character. Boston University offers 23 NCAA Division I varsity sports, 12 for women and 11 for men, and is a member of America East, Hockey East, the Colonial Athletic Association, and the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

The Department of Physical
Education, Recreation, and Dance (PERD) helps students and the
University community to enjoy healthy, physical activity. PERD
offers a variety of programs, classes, workshops, fitness
services, and intramural and club sports. PERD manages the new
Fitness and Recreation Center, which opened in April 2005.

Agganis Arena at
Boston University is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose Arena with
6,300 seats for Terriers hockey and ice shows and is expandable to
over 7,200 seats for concerts, sporting events, and family
shows. Agganis Arena is located within Boston University’s
new $225 million John Hancock Student Village – a 10-acre
hub of activity designed to be the thriving center of student life
and athletics. The Arena opened in January of 2005 and plays an important role in the New England region by providing a mid-size, first-class Arena located in the heart of the nation’s 6th largest media market.
