Progess to Your Degree
Students are strongly encouraged to be familiar with their degree and concentration requirements and to track their degree progress each semester. Degree requirements for each degree program are outlined in the SPH Bulletin. Each MPH concentration annually publishes Concentrator Guides for students, and MS and Doctoral programs publish program guides.
Degree Advice is a web-based academic advising tool available to School of Public Health faculty advisors and students through the Student Link. Degree Advice is customized per student and incorporates degree requirements, transfer credit, waivers, and current registration to update a student’s progress seamlessly through his or her degree program.
Degree Advice is accessed via the Student Link: Academics>Academic Advising>Degree Advice. A helpful student guide is also available, Degree Advice: A Guide for Students.
MPH students may also review their requirements by completing a self-audit using the audit sheet appropriate for their concentration and year of matriculation. Students who changed or added concentrations after starting their MPH program are responsible for the new or added concentration requirements at the time of the change.
SPH graduates students three times each year: at the end of the summer semester, at the end of the fall semester, and at the end of the spring semester. Students must apply to graduate. The September 2014 Online Graduation Application for SPH students is available in the forms section.
Please note: concentrations, degree programs, and faculty may set specific deadlines that students must meet to graduate, and students must adhere to those deadlines.
Doctoral and master’s of science thesis students must work with their program directors and follow the MS and Doctoral Graduation Calendar 2014-2015. MS and doctoral students planning to defend their thesis or dissertation should contact Brendan McDermott at Mugar Library at least a month prior to their defense date to check in regarding specifics of formatting and publishing their work.
A commencement ceremony is held once per year in May. Commencement Weekend in 2015 is Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, 2015. For more information on the SPH ceremony, go to the Commencement page.
