Enrollment Status.

All degree candidates may enroll as either full-time or part-time students. If you find that your enrollment status is incorrectly reflected email sphregr@bu.edu . Please include the semester, your name, and BU ID for assistance.

Full-time students are enrolled in 12-18 credit units per semester and charged a flat, full time rate for tuition. Full-time students are automatically enrolled in and charged the fee for the Boston University student health insurance. If you do have other, appropriate medical insurance from a U.S. based company, you may waive the health insurance before the semester deadline (end of September for Fall and the end of January for Spring). For details, see How to Waive University Medical Insurance. If you are registering for classes that will not count towards your degree program requirements, please check with the Office of Student Financial Services regarding the potential impact on your financial aid.

Part-time students are enrolled in 0-11 credit units per semester and charged the prevailing per credit rate for tuition. If at any point during the semester enrollment period you are enrolled for 9 or more credit units, you will automatically be enrolled in and charged the fee for the Boston University student medical insurance per state law. In addition, if you were enrolled for 8 or less credits during the fall or did not waive or request student medical insurance, and enrolled for 9 or more at anytime during the Spring, you will be enrolled in and assessed the fee for the student medical insurance for the Spring Semester. If you do not want the student medical insurance, see How to Waive University Medical Insurance.  If you are registering for classes that will not count towards your degree program requirements, please check with the Office of Student Financial Services regarding the potential impact on your financial aid.

How to Waive University Medical Insurance

The medical insurance must be waived before the deadlines established by the Student Accounting Services Office or the full amount will be due to the University. The “Request to Waive Medical Insurance Form” should be enclosed with the student accounts bill, and also can be acquired from the MyBU Student portal (Money Matters tab), or by downloading the Student Medical Insurance Waiver form from Student Accounting Services.
