Biography

Joseph Restuccia, DrPH, MPH is Professor and Chair Emeritus, Operations and Technology Management Department and Everett W. Lord Distinguished Faculty Scholar Boston University Questrom School of Business. Dr. Restuccia also holds the positions of Visiting Professor at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and at Catholic University in Milan and Rome, Italy. He previously served as a Research Scientist at the Veterans Health Administration’s Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research (CHOIR). Dr. Restuccia’s teaching and research spans over 40 years and has focused on issues related to health care quality measurement and improvement, cost containment, information technology, and healthcare system transformation. Among his activities are developing the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol, a quality improvement instrument used internationally; co-authoring the widely-used health care Organizational Transformation Model; and publishing extensively in the health services research literature. His research has been funded with over $8,000,000 of extramural support as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator by organizations including US AHRQ, VA HSR&D, US HRSA, the Commonwealth Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He has also consulted with numerous organizations in both the U.S. and in Europe on improving health care quality and productivity. Dr. Restuccia has served as a Senior Fellow at Boston University’s Institute for Health System Innovation and Policy and the boards of the University of California, Berkeley Center for Lean Engagement and Research (CLEAR); the Global Education Network for Innovation Education (GENiE); the Institute for Community Health; and the Scientific Advisory Committee of Catholic’s Graduate School of Economics and Management (ALTEMS).
