A Note From Lisa Sullivan, Associate Dean for Education

Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce the launch of a new Teaching and Advising website for SPH faculty: bu.edu/sph/teaching

Our goals with the new website:

  • Faculty-Centered. The website mirrors the process of organizing a course (1. Propose a course, 2. Prepare for the course, 3. Teach the course, 4. Assess students, 5. Assess the course, and 6. Advise students on what to take.) This approach moved us away from an office-based approach we’ve used in the past so we’ve included contact information at the bottom of each page.
  • Clear Navigation. We’ve compiled many of the resources that were scattered throughout the SPH website or that have only been available by email. We hope this allows you to access resources easily.
  • Dynamic. This website is for you. Please let us know if you can’t find a resource you need or you’d like us to add a resource. We’ve included a feedback form on the website so you can make these suggestions as you have questions.
  • Highlight Faculty Teaching and Advising. The website provides a great opportunity to highlight the excellent work you’re doing in the classroom and with your advisees. We’ll be adding faculty highlights, videos, and tips as we continue to develop the website; contact us if you’d like to be featured!

We hope that you find many pages on the new site helpful and would recommend the following resources as you prepare for the upcoming semester:

  • Course Preparation, a great place for resources about how to prepare for a new semester: bu.edu/sph/courseprep
  • Teaching and Digital Learning, a new SPH office designed to help you with teaching methods and integrating educational technology: bu.edu/sph/TDL
  • Working with Teaching Assistants and Graders: bu.edu/sph/TAGrader
  • Advising, Supporting, and Engaging a Diverse Student Body: bu.edu/sph/advising

Please don’t hesitate to contact us to give us feedback about the website and how we can help you support our educational programs.
