The epidemiology department is hosting a lunch and discussion on politics, health, and progress in Nepal with Mahesh Maskey (SPH’01). Maskey is a physician, epidemiologist, and international health and human rights activist. He is Nepal’s former ambassador to China, and currently serves as the honorary chair of the Joint Asia Pacific Public Health Initiative and as executive and founding chair of the Nepal Public Health Foundation. As the minister for health and population in Nepal, he was instrumental in health systems policy change, including the passage of the Health Act, which assured free care in primary healthcare centers, and the inclusion of free care as a fundamental human right in the interim constitution of Nepal in 2009. In 2013, Maskey received the School of Public Health Alumni Award in recognition of his distinguished career. He is also a 2017 Boston University Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.
