Dear Colleagues:

The Annual School Review is a review of ourselves, by ourselves, that we do every year to make sure we are optimizing how we are working, towards the goal of holding ourselves to the highest standards and making sure we can meet our aspirations.

One important component of this Annual School Review is the Annual Leadership Review, a review of the dean and members of the school’s governing council. A list of Governing Council members is available at bu.edu/sph/schoolreview. The School is committed to fostering the success of its leaders and enhancing their effectiveness in a constructive way. The Annual Leadership Review aims to support this commitment and ensure we are proactive; responsive to the needs of the field, our faculty, our staff, our students, and our alumni; and that the entire leadership team works to promote excellence in scholarship, education, and service.

The School’s leadership will complete a self-assessment form that evaluates their performance in the leadership and management aspects of their roles. Additionally, since all members of the leadership team are also faculty or staff, they will also complete an Annual Faculty Review form or Annual Staff Review form as appropriate.

I invite all faculty and staff to contribute to the review of the leadership team by providing honest and constructive feedback at bostonu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_b3ipNKl4KQMsXWZ. I would particularly value your feedback via open-ended comments so that I can better appreciate strengths and weaknesses, and also identify opportunities for improvement.

I recognize that the process of providing such feedback can be sensitive. Your anonymous responses will be used judiciously and only shared in the aggregate so that comments may not be traced back to those who submit them. As an alternative to providing anonymous feedback, you also have the option of including your name on the Annual Leadership Review form, or you are welcome to send additional feedback directly to me at sgalea@bu.edu. My email is personal and confidential. Anonymous and named feedback will be given the same consideration.

I will review all feedback about the associate deans, department chairs, center directors, and relevant division directors, and all feedback will be taken into account in these leaders’ annual evaluation. Feedback about my leadership as dean will be provided to Provosts Antman and Morrison as part of my annual review.

I thank you in advance for your input. The deadline for submitting your ratings and comments is Monday, June 1, 2015.

Warm regards,

Sandro
