Health Policy & Management

The advent of major health care reform has brought new urgency to several complex questions about our country’s health care system. How can we implement reform policies and programs to make care more available and affordable? To improve its quality? To contain costs?

A national leader in training health care policy-makers and managers, the Department of Health Policy & Management will give you the knowledge and tools to help meet these challenges. In addition to offering competency-based educational programs, we develop innovative research methods to assess health care quality, outcomes, and value. Our graduates enjoy outstanding career prospects in many sectors of the health care industry.

Exceptional Faculty and Research Options

At BU, you’ll be taught by a full-time faculty of more than 30 experts in their fields, many connected with our department-affiliated health services and disabilities research centers. You’ll find their teaching methods highly engaging and designed for active learning. That includes opportunities to join a wide variety of important research projects, such as analyzing current Medicare and Medicaid policy, studying drug policy and regulation, and evaluating racial and ethnic variations in patient care.

A Vibrant Classroom Experience

In class, you’ll learn real-world skills that prepare you for practice. Case studies provide practical examples of problems you’ll face as a health care analyst, manager, or consultant.
