Purchasing Card Training Requirements

Technical training is chiefly in Strategic Account Management (SAM), formerly PARIS, a software application created by American Express for use with the purchasing card. Cardholders and administrators use SAM to review and edit their transactions, and to manage spending by groups of cardholders.

Cardholders
  • After submitting PCard application materials, all applicants must complete SAM training.
  • Upon receipt of the card, new cardholders must sign the Card Release Form (Release of Card Acknowledgment) and confirm that they have completed training and have read the PCard Manual (Program Manual).
  • Hosted tutorials at BU Sourcing are conducted, by arrangement, for groups of cardholders. The hosted tutorials cover the same material as the on-line tutorial but are led by an experienced instructor.
Department Administrators

A local administrator may obtain permission to review and/or edit the transactions for any cardholders in a given department. Please complete the Sam Administrator Application and return it to the PCard Administrator.
