Questions to ask yourself before you select a supplier

What do you want to purchase?
  • What must the good/service be able to do?
  • Are there any time, product, or work constraints to be aware of?
What suppliers are available?
  • Does BU have a contracted supplier for this good/service?
  • What 3 suppliers potentially can provide the good/service?
Is the supplier fully aware of your specifications and scope of work?
  • Can the supplier provide a quote that satisfies your requirements?
  • Does the quote detail the total cost breakdown of goods/services to be rendered?
How do the quotes compare?
  • Can you compare the quotes “apples to apples”?
  • Can the supplier(s) revise the quote(s) so you can make a comparison, apples to apples?
  • If this purchase were to be audited, how would you justify your purchasing decision?
Are you ready to submit a requisition?
  • How does the selected quote meet your requirements?
  • Did you select a contracted supplier or competitive quote – or can you prepare a justification for non-competition?
  • Can you forward quote(s), specs, and/or a justification to BU Sourcing & Procurement upon request?
