Utilizing State Tax Exemption with the P-Card
Did you know that as an educational institution Boston University is exempt from the Massachusetts Sales Tax? This exemption extends to the Massachusetts Meals Tax as well. When using the P-Card it is strongly recommended that you notify the vendor of the tax exempt status prior to purchase. The tax exempt number is located on the back of the card. Vendors are generally willing to accommodate this request. They have, however, asked that Boston University employees notify their staff of the exemption as soon as possible. The only state tax that cannot be avoided is the Room Tax charged by hotels; we are obligated to pay that tax.
