Smart Lighting Challenge: Student Information

A Student Engineering Design & Business Strategy Competition

What: A student competition. No prior Smart Lighting expertise or technical knowledge is required, all background information will be provided.

  • Help optimize the design, manufacturing process, and product strategy for emerging solid state lighting technologies under development at the NSF Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center here at BU.
  • Teams will assume the role of product developer, and have two weeks to prepare their 15 min presentation to convince a panel of judges to adopt their strategy.
  • Network with industry professionals and other SMG/ENG/CAS students
  • $1600 in prizes to be awarded based on viability of business concepts, engineering feasibility, presentation quality, logic and reasoning. Total anticipated time investment per team is 20-32 hours (5-8 per person).

Who: All BU undergraduate and graduate students, working in teams of four.   Joint ENG/SMG/CAS teams are strongly encouraged in order to fully address award criteria.

Judges: BU ENG/SMG faculty and alumni, and, venture capital and industry professionals

Date & Time: April 9, first round of judging at 3:00, followed by dinner, keynote speaker, and final round.
Location: BU School of Management (595 Commonwealth Ave.)
Entry fee: $10 per person (includes dinner)
