Objectives:

To determine whether the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with a reduced risk of colon and rectal cancer.

Methods:

Incident case of colon and rectal cancer in women and men below the age of 70 years were ascertained through a network of collaborating hospitals in Massachusetts . For each case, a control matched on age, gender, and precinct was selected from a town list. Information was obtained through telephone interviews. Discharge summaries were obtained for the cases of cancer.

Results:

Regular recent NSAID use was associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer.
