Research Interests:
Dr. Vernacchio’s research focuses on common health problems that affect children, especially those that are largely managed by primary care physicians. Current areas of active research include otitis media and pediatric diarrhea. Dr. Vernacchio’s research is carried out mainly through the Slone Center Office-based Research (SCOR) Network, a research collaboration between Slone Epidemiology Center investigators and over 450 pediatricians and family practitioners throughout the United States. The purpose of the SCOR Network is to conduct studies of practical importance to the health of children, particularly in areas most relevant to primary care physicians. The network provides the opportunity to study the epidemiology of pediatric health conditions in the community setting and to test the effectiveness of interventions in real-world clinical practice.
