Rachel Ahrens
As the Arts and Entertainment editor of her high school newspaper, Rachel’s dreams of conquering the world of music journalism reached beyond the banks of the Mississippi and the Iowa cornfields that seemed so far away from anything remotely cool. After four years of reveling in the writer’s playground of the University of Iowa, she fled to Seattle in search of the fabled music scene. Her intentions were genuine, but she arrived nearly a decade too late. Undeterred, she taught English and journalism to the next generation of writers. The rewards of the profession kept Rachel entertained and satisfied for the better part of three years, but her own writing aspirations never entirely faded. So, she headed to the East Coast to pursue her masters in print journalism.
During her stint at Boston University, she focused on Arts Criticism but found herself the TA of the Science Journalism Department. She’s helped design and launch two Webzines while covertly working her musical influence into the world of science writers. When not infiltrating the realm of science and medical journalism, Rachel has been the editor of the COM alumni newsletter, The Muckraker, written for Boston’s Weekly Dig and has focused on both arts criticism and education reporting. She now hopes to branch off into the textbook publishing industry while keeping the dream alive by freelancing around the local Boston entertainment scene.
