Fitness

Students have to fit a lot of things into their busy schedules- classes, activities, time with friends- but one thing no one should forget to pencil in is regular physical activity. The USDA recommends that people be physically active for 30 minutes per day most days of the week in order to maintain good physical health.

Quick Facts:

  • Regular physical activity doesn’t just keep your body healthy-it’s a great way to relieve stress as well!
  • Even the busiest people can fit in some form of physical activity by doing things like walking instead of taking the T, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Physical activity doesn’t have to mean going to the gym- you can jog, ride a bike, take a walk, practice martial arts, dance…and many other things!

What You Can Do:

  • Check out the Fitness and Recreation Center. The facilities there include a weight and cardio room, two pools, a track, several gymnasia, squash and racquetball courts, and a climbing wall. Work out on your own, or try one of the many classes that are offered.
  • Start an intramural team with your friends-it’s a great way to combine socializing with physical activity!
  • Get up and move! If you’ve been sitting for a long period of time, in class or the library, take a break for ten minutes to walk around the block or even around the building.
