These workshops can be attended individually or as a complement to individual therapy. To participate, please contact Behavioral Medicine, Student Health Services, 617-353-3569.
NOTE: You can attend any one or more of these sessions, and benefit, even from a single session.
Stress/ Time Management
How often do you find yourself running out of time? Weekly, daily, hourly? For many, it seems that there's just never enough time in the day to get everything done. When you know how to manage your time you gain control. Rather than busily working here, there, and everywhere (and not getting much done anywhere), effective time management allows you to choose what to work on and when. This workshop will help you identify strategies for optimal time management while dealing with stressors associated with a busy academic lifestyle. In addition, tools to prevent procrastination and increase productivity will be addressed.
Through participation in this workshop:
- You will gain skills necessary to balance the demands of academics
- You will optimize your time with increased skills in prioritizing and time management
- You will better manage stressors associated with academic demands; skills that will be invaluable in the workforce

Mindful Relaxation
Mindfulness consists of paying attention to an experience from moment to moment — without drifting into thoughts of the past or concerns about the future, or getting caught up in thoughts or opinions about what's going on. In fact, it is known that learning to focus the mind can help you manage the stresses of everyday living.
Relaxation consists of attaining a state of increased calmness; it allows you to reduce levels of anxiety, stress or tension. Relaxation techniques are often employed as one element of a broader stress management program and can decrease muscle tension, lower blood pressure and slow heart and breathing rates, among other health benefits.
Through participation in this workshop:
- You will gain increased awareness of whether you are tense or relaxed. You will be more in touch with your body
- You will be better able to relax when you feel stressed out
- Your concentration may improve. By repeatedly bringing yourself back to the meditation, you are strengthening the part of your mind that controls what to think about and when.

Cognitive Behavioral Skills
Cognitive Behavioral Skills is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It seeks to help individuals overcome difficulties by identifying and changing thinking, behaviors, and emotional responses that get in the way of our success. This involves developing skills for modifying beliefs, identifying distorted thinking, relating to others in different ways, and changing behaviors. Cognitive therapy enhances the ability to develop constructive life goals, and a more positive self-assessment.
Through participation in this workshop:
- You will gain increased awareness of thoughts and behaviors, while decreasing self-criticism and self-sabotaging thoughts that are impeding progress
- You will gain skills that may help alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety (social, performance or academic) and self-image issues
