The Boston University Student Job Service assists degree-seeking students in financing their education. A variety of services are available to accommodate students' schedules and financial needs.

Part-Time Jobs

The Student Job Service lists hundreds of part-time positions available in the Greater Boston area. Jobs are separated by category and can range in pay from minimum wage to $20+ per hour. The average wage is $12 per hour. New positions are posted daily and no position remains posted longer than 4 weeks without confirmation that the position is still available.

A variety of paid internships are available to assist students in gaining practical experience and academic credit as well as income. On Campus jobs which do not require a Federal Work Study Award are also available. Students are responsible for contacting employers and setting up interviews.

Summer Jobs

The Student Job Service begins listing summer positions as early as January, and continues to list summer positions throughout the spring semester and summer.  These positions can be either part-time or full-time and can be located in the Greater Boston area or in a number of locations throughout the country.

On-campus jobs, internships, summer camp positions, as well as a variety of other jobs are regularly listed as summer jobs.  Students are responsible for contacting employers and setting up interviews.

Quickie Jobs

The Student Job Service provides temporary and unique employment opportunities known as Quickie Jobs. These jobs allow students to work around their academic schedules and require only a short-term commitment. Quickie Jobs range from party help and raking leaves to assisting in medical research studies or developing a web site. New jobs are posted continuously throughout the day.

Students are required to sign a contract agreeing to the service's regulations and must present their BU ID at the front desk before receiving any employer's name and phone number. Students contact employers and are paid directly by them.

To be eligible to use Quickie Jobs, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a degree program at Boston University
  • Be currently registered or on a leave of absence approved by the Office of the Dean of Students

*Entering Freshmen and Graduate Students are eligible to use the services once an admission deposit has been paid. A photo ID can be used in place of a Boston University ID for use of the Quickie Job Service. (Note: A kerberos password must be obtained through the Office of Information Technology before accessing the Studentlink).

Students can register to use the service by completing the "Quickie Quiz" and signing our contract. You can register online or in person during your next visit to the Student Job Service. (Click here for location)
Note: You must still come into the office to receive employer referrals.

International Students

International Students interested in working should obtain permission through the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). The majority of international students are allowed to work on-campus only.
