Academic Year Hiring Criteria
To be eligible to be paid as student employees at Boston University during the academic year, students must be enrolled in a degree program or on an official Leave of Absence for the current semester. (Note that students working while on LOA are subject to FICA taxes).
Students should not be encouraged to work more than 20 hours per week while classes are in session. Students who consistently work 40 hours or more per week are considered full-time employees and must be paid on a staff (CR, FY, MD, or OT) payroll level.
Students who are active as employees on the CR, FY, MD, or OT levels may not be paid as student employees until they have been terminated from the other payroll level.
If you have any questions regarding these criteria please contact Student Payroll.
