Tax Exempt Status Renewal Deadline for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

The Internal Revenue Service requires that all U.S. citizens and permanent residents who claim "Exempt" from taxes renew their status each year. If you claimed “Exempt” from federal and state income taxes during the 2006 calendar year and you wish to do so again for the 2007 calendar year, you must submit a 2007 W-4 claiming “Exempt” to the Student Payroll Office by February 6th. Failure to meet this deadline will cause you to have taxes withheld at the rate of "0 Single", which is the highest withholding rate. If you have any questions, contact us. International students may not claim exempt using a W-4 form.
