The Boston University Reading and Writing Clinic offers a variety of options for professional development. Graduate courses, which may be taken for credit or pdp's, week-long institutes, and a new certificate program are among our offerings.

Summer Literacy Institute
Five-Day Seminar (Th/F/M/T/W) on Supporting Struggling Readers and Writers: Response to Intervention (RTI) and Other Good Ideas designed for education professionals who are responsible for the literacy achievement of students in grades K-8.

June 25 - July 1, 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. (Lexington, MA)

$500 includes 30 Professional Development Points. Academic credit is available at an additional charge. Please note additional hours are required for credit students.

Certificate Program at the School of Education
Literacy Intervention: A Program for Literacy Leaders
Registration open to teachers from any community or school district

This Certificate program focuses on leadership in literacy instruction for teachers and administrators working with students in elementary, middle, and secondary school. Taken as a whole, the Certificate represents the cornerstones of literacy instruction. Four courses comprise the Certificate, and collectively they examine effective practices in reading and writing, including reading and writing across the curriculum, successful approaches to literacy assessment, intervention strategies, and designs for differentiating instruction that address the need of all learners.

9th Annual Favorite Poem Project Summer Poetry Institute at Boston University
The summer Poetry Institute, led by Robert Pinsky, former poet laureate of the United States, builds on the principles of the Favorite Poem Project. The Institute offers participating teachers a remarkable week-long opportunity: to study and discuss poetry with renowned practitioners of the art, five award-winning American poets. In addition, participating teachers work in groups throughout the week with leaders from Boston University's School of Education to develop innovative and energizing lesson plans with the aim of invigorating the teaching of poetry in their schools and classrooms.
