"Perhaps the greatest benefit of my experience in the clinic has been the opportunity to take all that I have read and learned over the past year and apply it in a supportive, well-established environment. Entering the Reading and Writing Clinic, I had completed all requirements for the Master's in Reading Education Program. Having read numerous articles, studies, books, and other research resources, my knowledge of reading research, knowledge of assessments, and knowledge of reading instruction was pretty solid. My background knowledge, combined with my great energy and enthusiasm for helping a struggling reader and writer find success, provided me with a terrific starting point for my tutoring work. I was able to take the research-based principles that I had read and learned about and put them to immediate use and experience success myself as a teacher. This provided me with the perfect opportunity to build my confidence in my reading knowledge, instruction, and assessment, enhance my teaching abilities, tighten my reading philosophy, and add to my experience working with struggling readers/writers."
